England keeper Hampton extends deal at Chelsea

Hannah Hampton kept seven clean sheets for Chelsea in 2025-26, joint-most in the Women's Super League

England international Hannah Hampton has signed a new two-year deal with Chelsea.

The goalkeeper's contract was set to expire this summer and it was key that Chelsea kept her as part of an effort to bounce back from a disappointing 2025-26 campaign.

After joining from Aston Villa in 2023, Hampton has become one of the world's best goalkeepers and cemented her position as first choice for the Lionesses.

The 25-year-old has won five trophies during her time in west London and was a standout performer as England won Euro 2025.

She won the Yashin Trophy for best goalkeeper at the Ballon d'Or awards last year and joins fellow England internationals Lucy Bronze and Aggie Beever-Jones in signing new Chelsea deals this summer.

"I'm really happy," Hampton said. "Chelsea have always been my dream club to play for in England so to be able to extend for another two years is a proud moment.

"When I moved to London from the Midlands, it was my first time moving away from home and everyone at Chelsea made it feel like a home away from home and somewhere I have been able to grow, not only as a player, but as a person.

"I don't want that journey to stop and I want to continue to grow more and learn more as a person. I know there is so much more I can achieve and so much more, we as a team, can achieve.

"I am going to do everything I can to help Chelsea get back to being as successful as we have been in the past."

Hampton was also part of the England squad that won Euro 2022 and reached the 2023 Women's World Cup final.

She helped Chelsea to an unbeaten domestic treble in 2024-25 and has claimed back-to-back Golden Glove awards in the WSL.

Chelsea have gone through a transitional year with several big-name players leaving this summer upon expiration of their contracts.

Striker Sam Kerr, midfielder Guro Reiten and former club captain Millie Bright all left at the end of the season, while several other players remained out of contract.

Hampton's renewal was vital for Chelsea's future plans and there was growing anxiety from the fanbase on whether an agreement had been reached.

She has had a difficult few years in the media, with the release of Mary Earps' autobiography throwing her into the spotlight, but Hampton's quality on the pitch has been clear.

Widely regarded as one of the most talented goalkeepers in the WSL, this season she will hope to reproduce the form she showed during Euro 2025.
